At Parker School, we believe that children of preschool age should learn through observation and experience, interacting with peers and teachers, and be encouraged to seek solutions to concrete problems. We delight in a child’s natural curiosity and desire to make sense of the world, and we encourage each one to become engaged in learning activities. Learning in all the content areas (math, science, language arts, music, art, etc.) is integrated through activities that are meaningful to the children. In addition, much of the curriculum is “emergent” which means that the teachers have the flexibility to allow the children to direct and more deeply explore the topics that are presented at school. Group socialization is a critical part of our program, and our teachers are skilled in guiding children through positive interactions with their peers. In the nursery program, the children attend school 5 days a week for 3 hours. We believe that this schedule provides a consistent social experience that allows the children to build important communication skills and form strong friendships. At each age group, Parker School’s stated goals provide an educational framework and are designed to lay a foundation on which the other goals build as the child matures. | ![]() AM/PM Nursery |
